The exhibition building of the Vienna Secession was built in 1897/98 by Joseph Maria Olbrich as an exhibition building for contemporary art, which it still serves today. In addition to the permanent presentation of the Beethoven Frieze by the important Austrian painter Gustav Klimt, a virtuoso interpretation of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, changing exhibitions of contemporary artists are shown on an ongoing basis.
The Art Nouveau building of the Secession itself, located on Wienzeile near Naschmarkt, is one of the most famous buildings in Vienna, with its foliage dome visible from afar. Above the entrance portal of the Secession is the motto of the artists‘ association of the same name founded by Gustav Klimt in 1897: „Der Zeit ihre Kunst“. Art its freedom. www.secession.at/
